Some monasteries in this area have sacred groves where the monks regularly feed the birds, animals and fish. Although totally wild, the birds show no fear and are happy to feed from the monks’ hands. The local Tibetan community also values its wildlife so the birds are not hunted and wander freely from the forest into the monastery.
