This Pheasantry was built to house birds that have been rescued from the wild by local people, usually when the birds have been unable to find food in the deep snow of winter. With input from WPA, this species now breeds regularly at Sarahan, the only place in the world to hold Western Tragopans. 14 have been bred in recent years and field surveys will soon take place to determine whether there is a need for a reintroduction programme to support this species.
