Southern New Zealand Dotterel, Charadrius obscurus obscurus. First example of this subspecies on IBC. Note the much more colourful appearance when compared to the North Island subspecies. Very rare, population reduced to 60-65 individuals by 1992, recovered to 150 by 1999 following predator control in breeding areas on Stewart Island. Three wintering populations, this one at Awarua Bay.
