Notice how this winter-plumaged male can curl its tail when whipping it back and forth. Matthew Cvetas of Evanston, IL, found him December 22 (reported to IBET) at Gillson Park in Wilmette, IL. He fed in the harbor and occasionally swam out into Lake Michigan. Frank Hildebrand noticed his drooping left wing, suggesting an injury not conducive to living far offshore with his friends (and far from photographers).
