How did it end? And what happened with the other bird and the bee? At least the bee was much smaller than this big dragonfly!
These birds have total control of the insects with its beak. Sometimes it looks like they are going to loose them...

(Bumble)Bees, Wasps, etc. are beeing destinged and depoisoned by smashing them onto the branch.
For other insects (like dragonflies) I'm not quite sure whether the purpose is to kill them or just make them dizzy enough so they can feed them to their young ones ((that's what happened when they left the branch).
