Canada
Life-long resident of Quebec, Steve currently resides in Saguenay which is located about north-east of Montreal and Quebec city ,in the Saguenay fjord, of the Canadian Province of Quebec.Being married to his spouse for more than 30 years, two grown-up childrens, birding for him became a great source of therapy after an automobile accident, in the late 90's, which left his spouse with secondary hemi-dystonia.
Steve had always enjoyed the hobby of photography, his father being a amateur 8mm cineast himself in the early 60's. Purchasing his very first own 8mm camera at the age of 18, gradually updating it for a super-8mm to a super-8 sound camera to a VhS-c video camera to a 8mm video camera, etc.
So, what was more natural than to bring these two hobbies together.
The Saguenay fjord allows the waters from the Atlantic Ocean and of the Gulf of Saint-Lawrence to flow into the heart of the Saguenay Kingdom. It drains the water of a catchment basin that covers 88,000 km2 and is 550 kilometres long. This arm of the sea originates at the centre of Quebec and in the northern forest east of Canada. The plains are surrounded by verdant mountains and the high plateaus offer breathtaking sceneries.
In all... A lake the size of a sea, forests as far as you can see, mountains that seems to touch the sky, so many different eco zones, yes the Saguenay fjord is unique in the world to start birding.
Thus, video documentation of birds has become nearly a full time hobby along with birding. Steve's goal for the future is to move up to HD video, in order to reach further for those less than cooperative birds and bring birds to a new level of enjoyment.
He also loves to edit and produce his work for educational purposes. Between being an informal caregiver, creating and maintaining the Dystonie-Qc.Org website, a GPS mini-video field guide is in it's embryonic beginings.
