I am working on a the endangered Samoa’s endemic honey-eater, the Mao, is classified as Endangered on the IUCN red data list and the Manumea which will soon be upgraded to critically endangered. Our project addresses the objectives of the Mao and Manumea recovery plans through a research project designed to gather ecological information on the factors that have led to the current decline of these amazing species. Mao and Manumea spatial use and breeding will be monitored by tracking movement with transmitters. Tissue samples will also be collected to gather information on key dietary requirements. This will then lead to a management programme to address threats to the species and bring about long-term population recovery.IBC Personal statistics:
