Since the late 80s, he conducted, together with Rafael Camacho, several expeditions to study the mountain bird communities of the Bioko Island. He received a PhD in Biology from the University of Barcelona in 1992. His thesis focused on the community ecology of the alpine passerines of the Pyrenees. Since returning to Aragón in 1997 from a postdoctoral fellowship at the Department of Zoology at the Uppsala University (Sweden), Ramón has worked for the regional government as a wildlife biologist. His current research focus several aspects of the population dynamics and conservation biology of the Bearded Vulture and other endangered species.
