Nick was born in Newcastle, Australia in 1964 and lives in Melbourne. He started going on trips looking for birds in 1997 after taking a birdwatching cruise down the Daintree River in North Queensland.
Since then he has watched birds in Australia, the Solomon Islands, Indonesia, Malaysian Borneo and New Zealand. In 2005 he started using a Nikon Coolpix 4500 and Swarovski spotting scope for digiscoping birds. Since 2011 he has used a Nikon D7000 DSLR camera and 80-400mm lens to take photos and video of birds.
