Leo Janssen

Mortsel, Belgium

Leo was born in a town near Antwerp. For the last 17 years he's been employed as a greenhouse worker. In his spare time he enjoys walking and being outdoors. Time spent outdoors is what sparked his interest in plants, mushrooms and insects.

His main interest, however, is birding. His hobby ranges from aviculture to obsessive seawatching to fanatic twitching. His dedication to birding can be measured by the large quantity of field guides and monographs he possesses on the subject and the amount of time he spends birdwatching. His hobby has had some disadvantages though. It has led to a perpetual state of bachelorhood, as reading and studying daily fills most of the scarce leisure time he has left. But being the keen birder that he is, it is time well spent.

In January 2000 he decided to buy a film camera (a Canon XL1). A decent tripod became available only in May and the lack of experience in filming explains the lesser quality of some of the first shoots. However, his material has quite improved since then, and will no doubt continue to do so.
