What can I say? Isn´t birding addictive? Surely many of the IBC contributors/visitors would agree…For me, it has always been a soft drug…until the first video camera fell into my hands; then it became a hard one. We birders should admit that the feeling is very similar to that of the hunter: The excitement of approaching and "catching" the animal (leaving aside that we don´t kill it). I was born in 1969 in Madrid, Spain, and I still live in this city (in the outskirts of it where some greenery and fresh air are still at hand). Mine is a beautiful country, although rapidly deteriorating in ecologic terms. “Development” has been astonishing in Spain in the last 30 years, with all its good and bad consequences. I happen to work in the Spanish Ministry of the Environment, although just in the bureaucratic part of it, nothing to do with birds, regrettably. I am married to a non birder who I´m still trying to convert, and have two young kids. I try to travel as much as I can, and steal here and there time for birding, although the dose always seems to be not enough…
