Jordi fell in love with Aiguamolls de l'Empordà when he was 14 years-old and there he discovered his great passion for birds. When the area was about to be converted into a housing development, he began a movement that aborted the real-estate project and achieved that that space was declared a Natural Park. He was its director for 14 years. Later on, he changed to direct the Fundació Territori i Paisatge of Caixa Catalunya, which was created to buy land and dedicate it to conservation.

His passion for birds has led him to travel throughout Spain and many other countries to see birds since 1983. He was one of the founders of Lynx Edicions and one of the editors of the Handbook of the Birds of the World during the first seven volumes, dedicated to the Non-Passeriformes, including the waterbirds, his preferred group.
