Igor Berkunsky

Igor was born in Tandil, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. He started watching birds at the age of 13 and when he was 17 he was already studying bird communities in Buenos Aires. When he finished Secondary School, he moved to the city of La Plata to study Biology with a focus in Ecology. In 2000 he received his degree in Biology. During his studies, he travelled all around the country and participated in many watching and research campaigns, above all in the jungles and forests in the north of the country. After a brief stay in Peru, collaborating on a study with Macaws, he started his PhD in the Chaco Province, Argentina, based on the breeding biology of the Blue-fronted Amazon (Amazona aestiva). At present, Igor is still involved in studying Parrots, as well as studying the breeding biology of the Blue-crowned Parakeet (Aratinga acuticaudata) and he is developing conservation actions for the Blue-throated Macaw (Ara glaucogularis), the most threatened Macaw in the world, in Bolivia.
