Eric was born in Tilburg in the Netherlands and became involved with photography as a teenager, practicing his skills on military jets. At the age of 25, his interest changed to nature and birds in particular. He also started travelling, mostly outside Europe, looking for exotic places and birds. In the beginning, his interest was focused on Africa, but later he looked for even more remote destinations like Antarctica and Galapagos.
