Dave made the transition from still photography to video in June 1995 on the day Canon released their first 20x magnification camcorder. Armed with his new camcorder and a 5x converter he drove overnight to Scotland where a King Eider became the first of many rare birds to be captured on film.Three months later his interests in rare birds took him to Suffolk where a North American vagrant, a Red-eyed Vireo gave him the idea of a name for his amateur film making – Red-eyed Video Productions.
He has produced videos of rare and scarce birds in his adopted county, Northamptonshire, since 1995 and regularly travels abroad with the Northants Bird Club & independently making DVDs of the trips which he presents to other bird clubs and societies. These include Morocco, The Gambia, South Africa and Panama.
A full time job and twin boys puts a strain on his free time although he hopes to make one birding trip a year with his Sony HDR-FX7 high definition video camera fitted with a Sony 1.7x HD lens to record new birds.
