
Bret Whitney

Bret grew up birding in the Midwest, mostly in Indiana,
where he graduated from Earlham College.
He is well-known for his ability to identify birds by their calls and songs,
which has led to his discovery of multiple species new to science in South
America and Madagascar. Bret is one of the founders of
Field Guides,
a Research Associate of the Museum of Natural Science at Louisiana State University,
and an Associate of the Laboratory of Ornithology at Cornell. Bret guides most of
the Brazil tours for Field Guides and, with Brazilian colleagues,
he is co-authoring a series of regional field guides to the birds of Brazil
