Angus Oliver
Australia
Angus is a 13 year old Aussie who has been obsessed with birds since he could speak. Visitors to his home who agreed to his parents' request to read the then 4 year old Angus a bedtime story emerged from the bedroom some time later with a stunned expression on their faces - instead of being presented with a Dr Suess or Mem Fox picture book, they were told to read entries from the Slater Field Guide of Australian Birds, periodically focusing on just nest or egg descriptions, or perhaps bird noises. His grandmother's copy of What Bird is That? developed a severe condition of overthumbed pages in less than a year and today his library of bird-related books, magazines, videos, dvds and toys have reached its peak. Moving from the city to a remote outback town gave him a new outlook on birdlife, and at the age of eight, was interviewed by a Sydney Uni researcher about his sightings in the Bedourie area. Currently he has 9 budgies, 2 bourkes parrots, 4 quails and a variety of chickens and has been trying to persuade his parents to allow him to breed budgies or quails or, preferably, buy him an incubator so he can raise quails. His dream is to build a massive domed aviary in which he would like to live. Angus received his first camera in 2008 and has been photographing and filming birds in his local area, at Lamington National Park, Brisbane, Bunya Mountains National Park or at his garden at home. He now lives at Kingaroy in south-east Queensland.IBC Personal statistics:
