Alex was born in Madrid in 1981. Thanks to his parents he began enjoying nature at a young age and understanding the need for its preservation. His father introduced him to photography and, later on, to the passion for filming wildlife.
He studied Environmental Sciences and specialized in Protected Areas Management and Nature Conservation and has participated in many research and conservation projects, mostly related to birds. Now, studying and filming birds has become one of his main purposes.
As a ringer of the Spanish Society of Ornithology, Alex is also very interested in the study of birds in hand and learning about aspects such as morphology, moulting, migration, population developments and any other ecological character.
In the summer of 2007 he began working full time with the Internet Bird Collection as the webmaster of the site and today continues collaborating actively with the project, as well as contributing with his own material.
His major efforts at the moment are dedicated to the preparation, together with his family, of several Ornithological Stations and Eco-Lodges in Spain and Brazil. The most ambitious part of this project has been the creation of Curicaca Wildlife Preservation Area, a virgin piece of land they acquired and turned into a reserve in North Pantanal, one of the world's hotspots of biodiversity and a paradise for birdwatching and birdfilming, which is already available to be visited after long years of hard work. By the time he makes ready the curicaca.com website and fixes up the last details of the reserve, his eyes are already focused on the next target, El Picarón Ornithological Station in Guadalajara, Spain, close to where another part of their project is already working succesfully since some years ago, Posada de los Gancheros, which new web site has seen the light recently.
