
Albert Martínez Vilalta

With a degree in Biology from the University of Barcelona and many years experience as a researcher in Ornithology, Albert has published numerous articles in scientific journals and popular science magazines. He has been co-editor of the Atlas of the Breeding Birds of Catalonia and Andorra, the volume of Birds of the Natural History of the Catalan Countries, and the Catalan Bird Report, as well as author of the Ardeidae family in the first volume of HBW. A specialist in wetland management and conservation, from 1987 to 1999 he was head of the area of Conservation and Investigation of the Ebro Delta Natural Park and currently forms part of the panel of experts of the Ramsar Convention. In this important wetland, numerous projects were developed to inventory and monitor the aquatic flora and fauna, including studies to evaluate the effects of lead poisoning on aquatic birds, the organization of long-term campaigns for the study of migratory birds, the monitoring of a reintroduced population of Hermann’s Tortoise, the study of the biology of threatened endemic fish, and the intensive study of the biology of Audouin’s Gull.
Albert is an active member of diverse Spanish and Catalan conservation associations. Since 1999 he has been working as an editor at Lynx Edicions.
