Taxonomy: Heleodytes brunneicapillus yucatanicus Hellmayr, 1934, Río Lagartos, Yucatán, Mexico.
Has been thought by some to form a superspecies with C. jocosus and C. brunneicapillus. Sometimes regarded as a race of latter, but differs significantly in plumage, voice, behaviour and nest form. Monotypic.

Distribution: N coast of Yucatán Peninsula from approximately Celestún E to El Cuyo (mostly in Yucatán state, marginally N Campeche), in E Mexico.
