Tyrant-flycatchers (Tyrannidae)

Yellow Tyrannulet (Capsiempis flaveola) - HBW 9, p. 287

French: Tyranneau flavéole German: Zitronentyrann Spanish: Mosquerito Amarillo

Taxonomy: M[uscicapa] flaveola M. H. K. Lichtenstein, 1823, Bahia, Brazil.
Genus was previously merged with Phylloscartes, but cranial and syringeal evidence suggest relationships elsewhere within Tyrannidae, perhaps near Phaeomyias and Nesotriccus; vocal similarities suggest relationship with Inezia subflava-caudata group. Proposed race amazonus (the Guianas, N & EC Brazil), described on basis of very few specimens, appears to be not reliably distinguishable from cerula in larger series of specimens; thus, merged with latter. Five subspecies recognized.
