Taxonomy: Bucco subsulphureus Fraser, 1843, Bioko.
Closely related to P. bilineatus and the superspecies formed by P. pusillus and P. chrysoconus. Three subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- chrysopygus (Shelley, 1889) - Sierra Leone and SE Guinea E to S Ghana.
- flavimentum (J. Verreaux & E. Verreaux, 1851) - Togo E to S Central African Republic and S Uganda, and S to C Zaire.
- subsulphureus (Fraser, 1843) - Bioko I (Fernando Póo).
