Taxonomy: Abrornis Armandii A. Milne-Edwards, 1865, no locality = mountains west and north-west of Beijing, China.
Two subspecies recognized.

Subspecies and Distribution:

  • armandii (A. Milne-Edwards, 1865) - breeds C & NE China (S Manchuria and S Liaoning S to E Qinghai, E Xizang and W Sichuan); non-breeding S China (W & S Yunnan), Myanmar, N Thailand, N Laos and N Vietnam (E Tonkin).
  • perplexus Ticehurst, 1934 - breeds SC China (Ningxia and Hubei S to SE Xizang, NW & N Yunnan and SW Sichuan) and NE Myanmar; non-breeding Myanmar and S China (S & W Yunnan, Guizhou).
