Toucans (Ramphastidae)
Yellow-eared Toucanet (Selenidera spectabilis) - HBW 7, p. 256
French: Toucanet à oreilles d’or
German: Gelbohrarassari
Spanish: Tucanete Orejigualdo
Taxonomy: Selenidera spectabilis Cassin, 1857, Cucuyos de Veragua, Panama.
Distinct within genus. Although not very closely related to S. culik, both that and present species have sometimes been thought to be part of probable superspecies formed by S. nattereri, S. reinwardtii, S. gouldii and S. maculirostris, but they differ from those four in voice and displays. Monotypic.
Distribution: N Honduras S, locally, to NW & CW Colombia and extreme NW Ecuador (Esmeraldas); apparently absent from SW Colombia.
