Taxonomy:
Rallus flaviventer Boddaert, 1783, Cayenne, French Guiana.
Does not closely resemble any other Porzana crake; because of similarities in face pattern and bill structure sometimes placed, with P. cinerea, in genus Poliolimnas, a separation which may be appropriate. Five subspecies recognized.

- woodi van Rossem, 1934 - S Mexico to NW Costa Rica.

- bangsi Darlington, 1931 - N Colombia.
- flaviventer (Boddaert, 1783) - Panama and Colombia to Venezuela, Trinidad and the Guianas, and S to N, EC & S Brazil, E Bolivia, Paraguay and N Argentina.
