Yellow-breasted Crake (Porzana flaviventer) - HBW 3, p. 190

French: Marouette à sourcils blancs German: Gelbbrust-Sumpfhuhn Spanish: Polluela Pálida

Taxonomy: Rallus flaviventer Boddaert, 1783, Cayenne, French Guiana.
Does not closely resemble any other Porzana crake; because of similarities in face pattern and bill structure sometimes placed, with P. cinerea, in genus Poliolimnas, a separation which may be appropriate. Five subspecies recognized.

Subspecies and Distribution:

  • gossii (Bonaparte, 1856) - Cuba and Jamaica.
  • hendersoni Bartsch, 1917 - Hispaniola and Puerto Rico.
  • woodi van Rossem, 1934 - S Mexico to NW Costa Rica.
