Taxonomy: Anarhynchus frontalis Quoy and Gaimard, 1830, Hauraki Gulf, North Island, New Zealand.
Genus very close to Charadrius, and perhaps not justifiably distinct; species has been linked particularly with C. bicinctus. Monotypic.
Distribution: New Zealand: breeds in C South I; winters in N North I.
