Taxonomy: Motacilla Sibilatrix Bechstein, 1793, mountains of Thuringia, Germany.
Occasional hybridization with P. bonelli recorded. Monotypic.
Distribution: Breeds from W Norway, British Is and W & S France E to SC Siberia and S through Italy, extreme N Greece, SW & C Ukraine and NE Kazakhstan; also disjunctly in Crimea and NW Caucasus. Non-breeding Africa from Sierra Leone and S Guinea E to S Sudan, N DRCongo, Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya and S Somalia.
