Taxonomy: Trochilus popelairii Du Bus de Gisignies, 1846, Peru.
Often placed in genus Popelairia, along with D. langsdorffi, D. letitiae and D. conversii; genus closely related to Lophornis. Monotypic.
Distribution: E Colombia, E Ecuador and NE Peru.
