Taxonomy: Smilorhis whytii Shelley, 1893, Zomba, Malawi.
Forms a superspecies with S. anchietae. Six subspecies recognized.

Subspecies and Distribution:

  • whytii (Shelley, 1893) - SC Tanzania to Mozambique and SE Malawi.
  • stresemanni (Grote, 1934) - SW corner of Tanzania and adjacent NE Zambia.
  • terminata Clancey, 1956 - highlands around Iringa, in S Tanzania.
