Recently included in tribe Anatini by some authors. Sometimes placed in monospecific genus Asarcornis. Monotypic.
Distribution: Relict populations in India, Thailand, Bangladesh, Burma, Viet Nam and Sumatra; formerly more widespread throughout range, and also in Java.
