Taxonomy: Upucerthia albigula Hellmayr, 1932, Putre, 11,600 feet [c. 3530 m], Tarapacá, Chile.
Plumage similarities suggest that it is most closely related to U. jelskii and U. validirostris. Monotypic.
Distribution: W slope of Andes in SW Peru (S from Ayacucho) and N Chile (Tarapacá).
