Taxonomy: Laimodon leucocephalus de Filippi, 1853, White Nile in extreme south Sudan.
Related to L. chaplini and L. rubrifacies, though not very closely; all three fairly close also to L. vieilloti. Races albicauda and leucogaster have sometimes been considered separate species; former interbreeds with other races wherever they meet, but latter is isolated geographically. Proposed race usukumae (SE of L Victoria) possibly recognizable: represents populations intermediate between albicauda or lynesi and nominate leucocephalus.
