Taxonomy: [Pipra] serena Linnaeus, 1766, Crique Ipoucin, River Approuague, French Guiana.
Genus often merged with . Until recently treated as conspecific with L. suavissima, but differs markedly in voice and in syringeal anatomy, as well as in plumage characters of male. Monotypic.
Distribution: Extreme SE Guyana, Surinam, French Guiana and N Brazil N of Amazon (lower R Negro E to Amapá).
