Other common names: Tibetan Eared-pheasant; Elwes's Eared-pheasant (harmani)

Taxonomy: Phasianus crossoptilon Hodgson, 1838, probably west China.
Race harmani sometimes considered a distinct species. Intergrades among races reported, suggesting that several may be of dubious validity. Five subspecies currently recognized.

  • harmani Elwes, 1881 - SW & SC Tibet and extreme N Arunachal Pradesh (NE India).
  • drouynii J. Verreaux, 1868 - probably E Tibet.
  • dolani Meyer de Schauensee, 1938 - WC China (S Qinghai).
