Other common names: Tibetan Eared pheasant; Elwes's Eared pheasant (harmani)
Taxonomy: Phasianus crossoptilon Hodgson, 1838, probably west China.
Race harmani sometimes considered a distinct species. Intergrades among races reported, suggesting that several may be of dubious validity. Five subspecies currently recognized.

- drouynii J. Verreaux, 1868 - probably E Tibet.
- dolani Meyer de Schauensee, 1938 - WC China (S Qinghai).
