Taxonomy: Turdus Leschenaulti Vieillot, 1818, Java.
Race borneensis of some taxonomic interest, although morphologically not very distinct; perhaps merits a combined genetic, behavioural and morphological study. Six subspecies recognized.

- indicus Hartert, 1909 - E Himalayas E to Myanmar, S China (Yunnan), W, N & E Thailand and Indochina.
- sinensis Gould, 1866 - S & E China (E from extreme E Qinghai and W Sichuan), including Hainan I.
- frontalis Blyth, 1847 - C & S Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Nias I, and lowland Borneo.
- indicus Hartert, 1909 - E Himalayas E to Myanmar, S China (Yunnan), W, N & E Thailand and Indochina.
- sinensis Gould, 1866 - S & E China (E from extreme E Qinghai and W Sichuan), including Hainan I.
- frontalis Blyth, 1847 - C & S Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Nias I, and lowland Borneo.
- borneensis (Sharpe, 1889) - upland Borneo.
- chaseni Meyer de Schauensee, 1940 - Batu Is, off W Sumatra.
- leschenaulti (Vieillot, 1818) - Java and Bali.
