Taxonomy: Sturnus cineraceus Temminck, 1835, Japan.
Genus formerly merged with Sturnus. Monotypic.
Distribution: Breeds SE Transbaikalia E to SE Russia (R Ussuri), S to C & E Mongolia, N China (E from E Qinghai and Sichuan), Korea, S Sakhalin I, Japan and S Kuril Is; non-breeding S China (including Hainan I and Hong Kong) and Taiwan.
