Taxonomy: Anas bahamensis Linnaeus, 1758, Bahama Islands.
Considered by some to form superspecies with A. erythrorhyncha, with which sometimes partitioned off in genus Poecilonetta. Three subspecies recognized.

- bahamensis Linnaeus, 1758 - West Indies, N South America to N Brazil.
- rubrirostris Vieillot, 1816 - E Bolivia and S Brazil to N Argentina and Uruguay.
- galapagensis (Ridgway, 1889) - Galapagos Is.
