Taxonomy: Piezorhynchus Richardsii E. P. Ramsay, 1881, Rendova, Solomon Islands.
Forms a superspecies with M. melanopsis, M. frater, M. erythrostictus and M. castaneiventris. Monotypic.
Distribution: New Georgia Is (Vella Lavella, Ranongga, Gizo, Kolombangara, New Georgia, Vangunu, Gatukai group, Rendova and Tetepare), in W Solomons.
