Taxonomy: Cypselus comatus Temminck, 1824, Sumatra.
Additional races proposed for some of islands off W Sumatra (stresemanni) and for some of Philippines (nakamurai), but both now considered invalid. Two subspecies currently recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- comata (Temminck, 1824) - S Myanmar (S Tenasserim) and peninsular Thailand S to Sumatra (including W Sumatran islands) and Borneo and intervening islands.
- major (Hartert, 1895) - Philippines, including Sulu Archipelago, but excluding Palawan.
