Other common names: Bonelli’s Warbler (when treated as conspecific with P. orientalis)

Taxonomy: Sylvia Bonelli Vieillot, 1819, “Piémont”.
Was until recently treated as conspecific with P. orientalis, but the two differ in vocalizations (primarily in calls) and also exhibit small differences in mitochondrial DNA. Occasional hybridization with P. sibilatrix recorded. Monotypic.

Distribution: Breeds in SW & C Europe from Spain and N Portugal E to Austria, Slovenia and Italy, and in NW Africa from N Morocco E to NW Tunisia; non-breeding in W African Sahel zone from S Mauritania and Senegal E to N Nigeria, N Cameroon and W Chad.
