Other common names: Wandering Tree Duck, Water/Diving Whistling Duck, Water Whistle Duck
Taxonomy: Anas arcuata Horsfield, 1824, Java.
Forms a superspecies with D. bicolor, with which it shows many similarities in morphology and behaviour, and hybridization has occurred. Three subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- arcuata (Horsfield, 1824) - Philippines, S Borneo, Sulawesi, Java, Lesser Sundas and Moluccas.
- australis Reichenbach, 1850 - N Australia and S New Guinea.
- pygmaea Mayr, 1945 - New Britain.
