Taxonomy: Ptiloris Victoriae Gould, 1850, Barnard Island, north Queensland, Australia.
Sometimes thought to form a superspecies with P. magnificus, and has been considered conspecific. Monotypic.
Distribution: Atherton Region of NE Queensland (from Big Tableland, S of Cooktown, S to Mt Elliot, and some offshore islands), in NE Australia.
