Other common names: Double-banded/Patagonian Two-banded Plover, Patagonian Sandplover
Taxonomy: Charadrius falklandicus Latham, 1790, Port Egmont, Falkland Islands.
Has been considered conspecific with C. alticola. Population of Falkland Is has been suggested as meriting a separate subspecies, on basis of high frequency of broken upper breast band. Monotypic.
Distribution: C & S Chile and Argentina; locally in S Brazil; Falkland Is. Winters N to N Chile, Uruguay and S Brazil.
