Taxonomy: Oceanodroma tristrami Salvin, 1896, Sendai Bay, Honshu, Japan.
Sometimes considered subspecies of O. markhami. Monotypic.
Distribution: Tropical and subtropical C & W Pacific, breeding at three or more sites in Hawaii; also (formerly?) in Izu and Bonin Is, off SE Japan.
