Taxonomy: Herpsilochmus stictocephalus Todd, 1927, Saut Tamanoir, French Guiana.
Appears to form a superspecies with H. gentryi; similarity of vocalizations have suggested to some that both are closely related to the H. pileatus group. Monotypic.
Distribution: E Venezuela (E Bolívar E of R Caroní), the Guianas and extreme NE Amazonian Brazil (NE Pará and Amapá).
