Taxonomy: Falco superciliosus Linnaeus, 1766, Surinam.
Forms superspecies with A. collaris. Two subspecies recognized.

Subspecies and Distribution:

  • fontanieri Bonaparte, 1853 - Nicaragua S to W Colombia and W Ecuador.
  • superciliosus (Linnaeus, 1766) - E of Andes, from Colombia E through Venezuela (except NW) to the Guianas, and S through Ecuador, E Peru, Bolivia (Beni, Santa Cruz) and Brazil to Paraguay and N Argentina (Misiones).
