Taxonomy: Cisticola nana G. A. Fischer and Reichenow, 1884, Ngaruka, near Arusha, north Tanzania.
Sometimes placed in a superspecies with C. ruficeps, presumably including also C. guinea. Original species name is a noun, and is thus invariable. Monotypic.
Distribution: SE Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, SW Somalia and N & E Tanzania.
