Taxonomy: Hemerodromus cinctus Heuglin, 1863, near Gondokoro, White Nile.
Sometimes placed in Cursorius; alternatively, along with Smutsornis africanus in Hemerodromus. Race emini may be better merged with nominate cinctus. Three subspecies recognized.

Subspecies and Distribution:

cinctus (Heuglin, 1863) - SE Sudan, E Ethiopia, Somalia and N Kenya.
emini Zedlitz, 1914 - S Kenya, Tanzania and N Zambia.
seebohmi Sharpe, 1893 - extreme S Angola and N Namibia to S Zambia, Zimbabwe and extreme N South Africa; possibly also N Malawi.
