Thick-billed Honeyguide (Indicator conirostris) - HBW 7, p. 292

Taxonomy: Melignothes conirostris Cassin, 1856, Moonda River, Gabon.
Forms a superspecies with I. minor; these two have often been merged, but they occur together in W Uganda without interbreeding; they may interbreed in Nigeria, but are so similar in appearance that hybrids are difficult to establish. Supposedly paler form, described as race pallidus, considered in part variant of nominate, although some pallidus treated as synonymous with race senegalensis of I. minor. Two subspecies currently recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- ussheri Sharpe, 1902 - SE Sierra Leone disjunctly E to S Ghana.
- conirostris (Cassin, 1856) - S Nigeria E to S Central African Republic and W Kenya, S patchily to N Angola and S & CE Zaire.
