Coursers and Pratincoles (Glareolidae)
Temminck's Courser (Cursorius temminckii) - HBW 3, p. 378
French: Courvite de Temminck
German: Temminckrennvogel
Spanish: Corredor Etiópico
Taxonomy: Cursorius Temminckii Swainson, 1822, Senegal.
Forms superspecies with C. cursor, C. rufus and C. coromandelicus, although present species partly allopatric with the first two taxa, which may therefore represent a separate superspecies. Occasionally treated as a race of C. coromandelicus. Possible races damarensis from SW of range and ruvanensis from E of range poorly defined and not usually recognized, though slight differences in upperpart coloration and apparently different migration strategies may indicate their validity. Monotypic.
Distribution: Savannas of sub-Saharan Africa from S Mauritania and Senegal to Nigeria, discontinuously across Sahel to Ethiopia, and S through C Africa to N South Africa.
